Wind Power Turbines - An Alternate Electrical Power Source For Homes And Farms
By Bob Pering

Although there are other renewable energy sources, such as geothermal and water, wind power turbines are one of the most commonly used power generators. A wind turbine is simply a machine that converts the wind's kinetic energy into electrical energy. The principle behind wind turbines isn't really new. In fact, wind machines based on a similar principle were used

in ancient Persia around 200 B.C. Using a wind and water system with no moving parts, the Persians were able to effectively cool buildings.

So why are wind power turbines so popular as an alternate electrical power source for homes and farms? There are two main reasons. One is that using turbines powered by the wind saves money on electric bills. The other is that burning fossil fuels to generate electricity produces greenhouse gases that make a terrible impact on the environment and climate. Turning to alternative sources of energy seems like the responsible thing to do.

Presently, generating electricity with wind turbines is being most used in the UK, Denmark, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and Ireland. They are also increasingly being used in many parts of the United States.

Harnessing power from natural resources is gaining steadily in popularity. The rising cost from the use of oil, is causing more and more people to turn to renewable sources of energy to power their home's energy needs. By using wind power turbines, it is possible to reduce ones monthly electric bills by 25% to 50%, or even eliminate them completely.

The largest expense for wind turbines is the construction and installation cost. If they are properly installed, wind power turbines don't need much maintenance. A periodic check for wear and tear should be made routinely, but generally speaking, a wind turbine is pretty much maintenance free.
